Insomnia and Sleep DisturbancesInsomnia is the definition for an individual’s inability to fall and/or stay asleep. Typically, acute conditions are due to stress or anxiety caused by a one off event, such as wedding, exams, moving house.
Almost everyone will suffer this type of insomnia at least once in their lifetime. |
Chronic forms of insomnia are more often than not a sign or a symptom of disorder, whether it is medical or medication; psychiatric or physically related due to pain for example, it is important to understand the triggers so that you can limit the episodes of sleep deprivation.
There are 3 types of Insomnia:
Transient Insomnia: lasting less than 1 week maybe caused by too much alcohol, sleeping arrangements, persistent noises, stress.
Acute Insomnia: lasting for a period of less than 1 month. The quality of sleep is not good enough to feel fully refreshed or the length of time in deep sleep is disturbed.
Chronic Fatigue: typically someone who has been experiencing sleep disturbances for more than a month. This can be a very stressful time as sleep deprivation will start to impact on someone’s overall health and wellbeing. Clients report a list of body ailments and mental disorders just from the lack of sleep. Sleep is the body and mind way of repairing itself, if it can’t shut down to repair the body starts feeling the strain and there’s an untold amount of conditions that can appear as a direct result of sleep disorders.
